Essential Spring and Summer Basics with General Pants
The right basics will carry you through every day, into the night, overseas, and all the way back home again. Dress ’em up, dress ’em down, wear ’em all around town. But finding the right basics ain’t easy. Lucky for you, we teamed up with our mates at General Pants to showcase some of the best basics on offer right now, from the brands you know and lurve like Insight, Arvust, and Subtitled... with a few pairs of Local Supply thrown in for good measure ;-).
Chris plays it cool in our Freeway Denali sunnies, the perfect compliment to this Insight ‘Cord Borg’ black jacket and long sleeve-striped top. Nothing like a stripe to jazz up a simple outfit, amiright?
Alex and Chris rough up a classic blue jeans w/ plain tee look with these ‘City Riot Drip & Destroy’ jeans from Insight. Best paired with plain tees like Alex’s white Arvust T-shirt and Chris’ dusty pink Insight T-shirt, and your favourite pair of Local Supply shades. (Our Coast GYP1 and City TLP1 styles pictured here).
We’re all about that long sleeve khaki shirt over a plain white tee look, both in this case are from ur fav surf and skate brand Insight. When it comes to things that men wear on top, it’s all about finding the right fit so that it hangs well off your shoulders, whether the overall fit is loose or, well, fitted.
Luka’s wearing a Subtitled denim pinafore o’er her grey marle tee by the same brand. There’s something utilitarian but also kind of art teacher about a good denim pinafore that makes it one of our fav summer basics. Alex is still wearing his Arvust tee and Insight ripped jeans, because he suits ‘em so well.
Nothing works with a tight-fitted tee like a good pair of triceps. If you’re a little leaner than your average bulked-up gym nut, you might like to try a slightly boxier fit rather than having your shirt pressed tight across your pecs like Johnny Bravo. Either way, nothing says summer like blue jeans with a white tee. This one’s by Arvust, teamed with Insight jeans.
The genius of a long-sleeve shirt thrown over a light and soft t-shirt is that you can take it off when the heat hits you and throw it back on when you need to look like a respectable human being — at lunch, at a meeting, or when you’re heading out for a drink after a long summer’s day. This khaki shirt and the dusted tee beneath it are both from Insight, while the navy Chinos are from Aussie label Spencer Project. We’re vibing on chinos and not-too-tight blue jeans this summer — not sure why we’re still seeing so many guys and girls down under with denim glued to their skin like we don’t live in one of the hottest countries on the planet. Plus, that look’s over don’t ya know?
The Everyday sunnies are our universally beloved D-shape frames . They’re pictured in a really snazzy tortoiseshell colour that’s best teamed with a monochromatic palette as seen in this series of photos.
This summer we're predicting that bball courts will be a strong contender for the photoshoot hot spot of the season
You can’t wear a plain white or striped tee everyday — throw a little dusty pink into your wardrobe, because there’s no sense in being afraid of colour, even when we’re talking about basics. This outfit’s from the legends at Insight.
Chris blue-stealing the show! Another look from Insight, again with shirt over striped tee. Earrings optional but highly recommended if you’re a smoldering model like our boy here.
