Local Supply Sounds: 001 w/ Mike Deleasa

By Alexander Wu-Kim | Music | 30 Nov 2017

Today we're excited to introduce y'all to our new segment, Local Supply Sounds. We're partnering with our favourite DJ's, producers and musicians from all round the joint to bring you tunes to dance to, fist pump, or smash out that 6pm email. First up, we have the man from New Jersey, Mike Deleasa. The man is a freaking talent as you'll soon find out. We've been waiting for the right moment to drop this on you, and today is the day. Check it out  and read our lil interview with him below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you live? What do you do? And give us a fun fact about yourself!
I am originally from from New Jersey, and since I can remember I have been writing and performing. I was living in LA while touring around the U.S. & Latin America and last year I moved to NYC.  I started a jewelry brand called Laval with some good friends and took a break from touring full time to focus on my DJ’ing.  I love to travel and DJ’ing allows me to explore many beautiful places, many times unexpectedly. Today for example I am on my way to Saint Tropez for a gig. A fun fact… let’s see….  I play a mean mouth trumpet.

What's the favourite thing about your home town? If we were to visit, what's the one thing you would recommend?
My favorite thing would be the people, I have some of the best memories growing up in Jersey and playing in the “local scene.” I got to meet, & hang with some of my still now closets friends…… Hmmmm I gotta recommend food and I’m gonna say get your ass to Ol Town Deli and get a taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwich… I guarantee if you do you’ll be seeing taylor ham meat pies in no time.

Music is obviously a big part of your day to day. How did you initially get into it?
I just loved listening to it, and would sit in my room and air drum to the radio. I wanted to be a drummer so my parents cut me deal that  if I learned guitar then I could take up the drums. They were trying to keep things quiet at the house but that didn’t last long.

Let's talk about this playlist. How would you describe it?
This is my Mike D gotta brand new pair of shoes mix and wants to go walking around the city. When I get some free time I like to just get lost in NYC and this is kinda what my recent sound track has been.

Do you have any projects that you're currently working on?
Yes I have been keeping busy with DJ’ing, working on Laval and recording a bunch of new music to gear up for another release. But to be honest the only thing I am thinking about is making dope music and not rushing anything.

Do you have any rituals or routines before you go on stage, prepare for a set etc?
Just try to keep my vibe right, if its a performence the usual vocal warm ups and just getting amped up, if I’m DJ’ing I just like to channel the vibe in the room to see how I wanna start things off for the night.

What's the one piece of advice you would give to your 10 year old self?
Chill out, stay in the moment, & don’t be shook

Favourite song or album of the moment?
I been obsessing over the NxWorries album Yes Lawd! and the song “Suede” has been on repeat, don’t worry it made its way into the mix.

Finally, how did you hear about Local Supply? And what do you think of the brand?
I was actually on a trip hanging in Sydney and came across the brand in a boutique. I started following the brand on the gram and it was game over

Big shout outs for Mike for putting the playlist together. You check him out on his website or his mixcloud
